Study Guide
There are many ways that you might choose to make your way through the unit. The diagram and suggested sessions (below) will help to plan your learning through the Access and Interpret Product Information unit. The sessions outlined below are a suggestion only - you may have another way that you prefer to study.
Session 1 - Access Product Information
This includes:
- Identifying Sales or operational needs for product information
- Identifying and accessing sources of product information
- Using a range of methods to obtain information
A few points to think about for your blog:
- Think back on the last holiday you went on, or the last event you attended. What were the specific sales or operational needs that you requested to ensure your holiday or event went off without a 'hitch'
- In our industry, most of our products are intangible. Explain in your own words 'intangible' and then list 5 'intangible' products you have recently experienced
- What do you think is a product category within your industry / sector?
Session 2 - Accessing Product Information and Interpreting product Information

Session 2 - Accessing Product Information and Interpreting product Information
This includes:
- Sourcing specific product information to meet sales and operational needs
- Reading and interpreting general and specific details about the product
- Interpreting special jargon or specifications
A few points to think about for your blog:
- What would happen if you advised a client of incorrect travel information or you said a product could perform a particular tasks and it couldn't. How does this affect you and the business?
- From the 2 websites researched, what specific product information can be found?

Session 3 - Interpreting product Information
This includes:
- Identifying and assessing any customer, sales or operational risks that relate to the product
- Recording and storing information for future use
A few points to think about for your blog:
- Discuss a current topic or issue that has caused negative environmental, cultural or social impacts within your community
- With regards to customer safety, research a 'new or emerging' product / service or attraction within your sector. Can you foresee an accident 'waiting to happen' if potential risks were not identified
- Under the 'whats new tab' on the Financial Services Reform Act ( 2001 ), website. What has recently been amended that relates to your industry / sector. It can be an Act, Bill, Legislation etc.
Session 4 - Update knowledge of products
- Discuss a current topic or issue that has caused negative environmental, cultural or social impacts within your community

- What was the latest 'app' you have downloaded, or your latest technology purchase
- Sign up for an e-newsletter / Facebook page or group, follow someone on twitter where you can regularly receive updates on current and emerging information and technology for your sector
- How do you or how would you share this new information with your colleagues in the workplace?
